Not Media Company

A front page that orders stories by publication time buries channels that are rarely updated. Legia designed and built the portal so every channel has a fixed place.

01About the client

Not Media Company is an online media publisher with channels covering news, technology, culture, magazines, entertainment, and sports, plus a media channel of video and podcasts.

02Challenge

A news portal publishes many stories each week in channels of different natures, and a front page that arranges them purely by publication time buries rarely updated channels under the most productive ones. Readers are also not uniform: some come for the day's news, some follow one topic, and others follow particular authors. Those three habits need three different doors, and a single list of stories serves only the first.

03Legia's approach

The front page is organized by channel, not as a single stream of time. Each channel gets its own block with varying layouts, one main story with a large image accompanied by supporting stories, so a channel with little content still has a fixed place. Above everything stands a numbered list of popular stories for readers who have just arrived and have no destination yet. The media channel is split into entertainment, video, and podcasts through a list in the left column, because the content is not text and its cards need a play marker. Each author gets a page with a short profile, social media links, and all their stories, so readers who follow a particular person do not need to browse channels one by one. Search sits in the top bar, apart from the channel navigation, so the two ways of looking do not cover each other.
