Kendal SEZ

Kendal SEZ is compared by prospective tenants with other estates in Southeast Asia, often without ever visiting first. Legia designed and built the site so that comparison can be settled in a single visit.

01About the client

Kendal Industrial Park, marketed as Kendal SEZ, is a 2,200-hectare integrated industrial estate in Kendal Regency, Central Java. It is managed as a joint venture between Jababeka of Indonesia and Sembcorp Development of Singapore, and holds Special Economic Zone status so tenants can use fiscal incentives such as tax holidays and exemptions from import duties and VAT. Tenants work in textiles, manufacturing, consumer goods, healthcare, renewable energy, food processing, packaging, furniture, and automotive.

02Challenge

The decision to locate a factory rarely begins by contacting anyone. An expansion manager draws up a shortlist first, and what gets compared is always the same: distance to ports and airports, fiscal incentives that actually apply, labor availability, and who already operates there. If any of those figures is missing from the site, the estate drops off the list without anyone ever asking. Most readers also come from abroad, so everything must be readable without local background knowledge.

03Legia's approach

Connectivity figures sit side by side with the area map, not as a separate list, so distances to the airport, station, and two ports are read together with their positions. The estate's advantages are split into cards that each stand alone, so readers can stop at the one thing they are assessing without reading everything. The list of tenants already operating is used as proof and placed near the investment section, because in a decision this large the track record of the neighbors is most reassuring. The hero carries two different calls to action, one for those ready to invest and one for those still exploring the estate, since those two readers are not at the same stage.
